 DMU

April 1967

A Met-Camm (later a Class 101) power-twin working with a suburban DTS at Birmingham Snow Hill in April 1967. Hugh Llewelyn.

 DMU

April 1967

Set: 418

A BRC&W three-car DMU (power cars M50491 and presumably M50439) enters Birmingham Snow Hill in April 1967. Tyseley set number 418 is in the cab window. The centre car is noted as M59148 which casts in doubt whether it or M59147 was transferred from Tyseley to Etches Park the previous month. Hugh Llewelyn.

 DMU

circa September 1969

Set: TY053

Birmingham Snow Hill in Autumn 1969. A single diesel multiple unit (W55008) was sufficient for the weekend traffic to Wolverhampton Low Level. It was in blue livery with a small yellow warning panel & here with exhaust billowing from its two cab roof pipes it is ticking over in bay platform 4 prior to departure. Pete LG99.

Set: TY053

The beautiful old Great Western Railway Birmingham Snow Hill station with single car GRC&W dmu 55008 forming the shuttle train to Wolverhampton Low Level, Autumn 1969. Pete LG99.

 DMU

circa September 1969

Set: TY053

Taken at Birmingham Snow Hill in Autumn 1969, the days when at least a shuttle service ran to Wolverhampton Low Level. This single car dmu (55008) sitting in bay platfom 4 looks a bit lost in the grandeur of the setting but was sufficient for the expected custom. The disused Great Charles Street exit is ringed by the delicate Edwardian wrought iron fencing & gate between bay platform 4 & the Down Main platform 5. The tracks are still in the platform lines but the through lines have been severed at this point. Pete LG99.

 DMU

1971

The Saturdays only 12.40 to Wolverhampton Low Level waits to leave the largest unstaffed halt in the world, resting in the murk of Birmingham Snow Hill. Only two platforms remained in use for 10 daily departures. Seven on a Saturday and none on Sundays! Stephen Burdett.

 DMU

3rd March 1972

Set: TY055

I think my father was photographing these services in conjunction with the closure of Birmingham Snow Hill. In this one a Tyseley single car DMU TY055 (presumably 55010) is seen in Snow Hill waiting to leave on the 16.58 to Langley Green. The KDH Archive.

 DMU

I think my father was photographing these services in conjunction with the closure of Birmingham Snow Hill. In this one two Tyseley single car DMU's are seen in Snow Hill, one is waiting to leave on the 16.58 to Langley Green (TY055, right, presumably 55010) and the other has arrived at 16.57 from Wolverhampton. Date is 3rd March 1972. The KDH Archive.

 DMU

October 1987

The smoke extractors were needed in October 1987 when the then new Birmingham Snow Hill station had reopened to cater for the emissions from the ageing Tyseley DMus! The lights give indication to the climb from Moor Street. Stephen Burdett.

 DMU

5th October 1987

Set: T322

Birmingham Snow Hill was reopened as a terminus station on 5 October 1987. On 26 November of that year I took this picture of class 116 T322 (53071 + 59114 + 53880) standing in the platform that was later taken over by the tram system. I don't know why it was at the buffers so far along the platform nor why there is a tail-lamp on it; the engines were clearly working but there may have been a problem with the transmission which caused a failure. Peter Tandy.
